NOVEMBER 30, 2004 (TORONTO) –  In the wake of recent corporate governance scandals in the U.S. and Canada, the role of the director in fostering investor confidence and creating fair and efficient capital markets has never been as important as it is right now.  Mark this Friday, December 3, 2004 on your calendar for the next CFIE Symposium entitled Building Better Boards: An Interactive Conference on Corporate Directorship.  The program features distinguished speakers who will present their views and offer critical debate on this subject.

The goal of this Conference is to stimulate dialogue, and identify specific strategies and directorship practices for improving accountability.

 The event, sponsored by CFIE, The Directors College, and the British Columbia Securities Commission will be held at The Four Seasons Vancouver, 791 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, B.C., and it begins at 9:00 a.m. PT.

 Building  Better Boards: An Interactive Conference on Corporate Directorship will be of specific interest to individuals in senior management positions of private and publicly listed businesses, in addition to corporate directors, members of the institutional trading

community, investor relations professionals and investors with an interest in learning more about how proper boards should function.

 Two panel discussions will address such topics as: changes in the role of the corporate director; recent trends in the industry such as professionalization and certification of directors;

the current health of the capital markets; and specific strategies and directorship practices for improving director accountability at all levels.

 There will be a keynote presentation by Douglas Hyndman, Chair of the B.C. Securities Commission at 11:40 a.m. PT, followed by lunch, and then an interactive workshop in the afternoon with Dr. Chris Bart, C.A., Lead Professor and Founding Member, The Directors College, & Professor of Strategy and Governance, DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University.
