Jeff farms south east of Olds, Alberta growing barley, canola and wheat on 1350 acres. Jeff's family has a long history of farming in the Olds area. The family farm dates back to 1930 on his father's side and his mother's family established a homestead 15 miles north west of the farm in 1893. Jeff has been actively farming since 1975, acquiring the family farm in 1998 when he formed J.E. Nielsen Farms Inc.
Jeff obtained a diploma in Agriculture Technology from Lethbridge Community College in 1987.
Jeff worked for BASF Ag. Products as a contract sales representative for Alberta from 1993 - 2000.
Jeff was past vice president of "Pool 2000" from 1995 - 2000 creating, fundraising and finally seeing the opening of an indoor aquatic centre in the town of Olds.
Jeff was elected to the Board of Directors of United Grain Growers in 1999, and served on the UGG Board until the merger with Agricore in 2001.
Jeff was elected to the Board of Directors of Agricore United in February 2005 and served on the Member & Community Relations Working Group and Risk Review Committee until the sale of AU to Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (Viterra) in 2007.
Jeff was elected to the Board of Directors of the Western Barley Growers in 2002 and served as President from 2006-09. As WBGA's representative, Jeff was a Director of the Grain Growers of Canada, serving as Vice President in 2007-08.
Jeff was elected by the farmers in Distict 2 (west central Alberta) to the board of directors of the Canadian Wheat Board in December of 2008. A strong believer in choice marketing Jeff continues to work with the producers in that area to achieve this goal.
