Overview

The Directors College* oversees the development of training and other programming in conjunction with its founding partners,THE CONFERENCE BOARD OF CANADA and THE DEGROOTE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS at MCMASTER UNIVERSITY. The Directors College has two levels of education, the Chartered Director Program and Specialized Programs and Courses.

The Chartered Director Program Overview

The Directors College Chartered Director program has become Canada’s national standard in director education. This comprehensive and innovative course takes a two-track approach to professional development and continuing education for corporate directors:

  • The first track focuses on participants who want to earn accreditation as a Chartered Director (C. Dir.). These participants will complete the five modules that make up the complete curriculum. The Chartered Director accreditation process includes an examination, which is based on course materials and instruction from all five modules.
  • The second track is geared to participants who prefer to hone their skills in particular areas, by selecting and completing some individual modules, without completing the whole curriculum.

Our program is designed for directors who already serve on corporate boards, or candidates who intend to serve on corporate boards and want to master the structure and dynamics of corporate governance. The program’s curriculum is tailored to the culture of Canadian business. It raises the bar for professional standards and looks at the critically important interaction between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility.

The registration fee of $4,000 per module includes all sessions over the 2 1/4-day period (a total of 92 hours for all five modules), copies of prepared handouts and available texts, and all meals and accommodation during the session. It does not include travel to and from the module location. There are five modules required to complete the Chartered Director program, so participants who are pursuing the C.Dir. designation will pay a total of $20,000 (GST exempt) in registration fees. Please note that you can register for all five modules at once, but billing to your credit card will occur six to eight weeks in advance of each module so your payment can be dispersed.
